Lung Transplant Overview
Lung transplantation is a new treatment option for end stage lung disease. It was started by Dr James Hardy in 1963 from Mississippi, USA. It was the discovery of cyclosporine and development of better surgical techniques by the Toronto Lung transplant team that led to the success from 1980. This program started in India in 1999 by Dr K M Cherian from Chennai.

Lung transplantation is a surgery where the disease lungs is replaced by a healthy lung. As everyone know that person with end stage lung disease will be oxygen dependent and will be inactive and will have poor quality of life. Above treatment option can improve the quality of life in terms of breathing freely without the long oxygen tubes and able to do the routine activities by himself.
Yashoda hospitals in Hyderabad started the program in 2020 and conducted more than 50 lung transplant and having several success stories from different parts of the India and latest being from Kerala.
